The lambs receive their first antibodies via their mother&#8217;s colostrum in the first few hours of life, and then via a vaccination booster every six weeks for next three months and then by booster every six months.<\/p>\n<p>Weaning is a critical period in the life of young sheep as it is this time when more problems occur than at any other stage of a sheep\u2019s life. Sheep of this age need careful observation as to their general health. Weaners are very susceptible to the deadly Barbers Pole worm (<em><a title=\"Haemonchus contortus\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Haemonchus_contortus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Haemonchus contortus<\/a><\/em>), fly strike (<a title=\"Myiasis\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Myiasis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Myiasis<\/a>), scabby mouth, mycotic dermatitis, occasionally pneumonia, fluctuations in feed availability and general illness.<\/p>\n<p>Farmers work with animal nutritionists and <a title=\"Veterinarian\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Veterinarians\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">veterinarians<\/a> to keep sheep healthy and to manage animal health problems. Lambs may be castrated and have their tails docked for easier shearing, cleanliness and to help protect them from fly strike. <a title=\"Sheep shearer\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sheep_shearer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shearers<\/a> or farmers need to remove wool from the hindquarters, around the <a title=\"Anus\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anus<\/a>, so that <a title=\"Feces\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Feces\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">droppings<\/a> do not adhere.
